I vow to start dancing 11 minutes earlier in the day! I know releasing and connecting physically make me more productive. This day, it was again an immediately pre-bedtime dance to these songs:
Thaba Bosigo, Abdullah Ibrahim (formerly known as Dollar Brand), from the album Africa
Much of Abdullah Ibrahim is too jazzy for me, but I like this one, especially the flute that comes in at around 45 seconds.
Sometimes my dancing is not so much what you’d think of as dancing, but more stretching and rolling around and vamping. This song got me feeling all sinewy and I wanted something slow and expansive – melodic and ballad-like. I tried Shine On Crazy Diamond, Pink Floyd, but before I made it to the vocals of this 13 minute song, I decided to switch to something I knew would work – sometimes I just need a nice seventies girly song:
You’re My World, Helen Reddy’s Greatest Hits
What’s important about sharing who you are with the world, even when you think it’s corny (like when you’ve been vamping out to Helen Reddy, just for instance!) For me, it’s knowing that for every time I share, I’m claiming another piece of myself, and declaring myself ready to connect with others on a real basis, not from that part of me that has to look good.
